Lantern Meet Of Poets

Lantern Meet Of Poets

The Lantern Meet of Poets is a Kampala based community of young writers brought together by the common desire to promote writing and revive the dying literary tradition in Africa.

Formally birthed in April 2007, the group has in its four years of existence held four grand poetry recitals. We have hosted at these events guests like Maurice Kirya, Xenson, Babaluku, Saint CA and Susan Kerunen. Our Grand Recitals have so far been completely FREE.

Some of the organizations we have worked with in the championing of poetry include The Uganda Commission for UNESCO, Uganda National Cultural Centre, Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development, Bayimba Cultural Foundation, FEMRITE, The Maurice Kirya Experience, Spoken Truth, KEBU, Poetry in Session at Isha’s and Open Mic Kampala.

Our vision is to restore to Africa the epoch of the great literary legends. Our mission isto provide a forum for intellectual intercourse, preserving and uplifting our culture aswell as discovering, encouraging and inspiring young writing talent.

I salute the great work of lantern meet of poets in helping resurrect a lively literary culture in Uganda.

This should feed well into the broader mission of African youth to create new Africa that is truly free, informed, developed, proud and confident.

the lantern meet of poets. this is the best thing to ever happen to creative writing in uganda. its very humbling to know that after all these years of writing being discarded by our folks as being irrelevant, mother nature has always kept a special spot for us. i love poetry. GOD BLESS US.
