Mercy Mirembe & Occasional Theatre

Dr. Mercy Mirembe Ntangare is an academic, folklorist and playwright. She hold a Doctor of Philosophy degree and teaches Drama, Theatre marketing and folklore (cultural Identity studies) at music dance and drama (MDD) department, Makerere University, Kampala where she is former head of department (July 2002 – March 2009). She is currently deputy dean in the faculty of Arts.

Mercy is a founder and former chairperson of Eastern Africa Theatre Institute (EATI), a regional theatre network operating in Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia sine 1999. She is board member EATI – Uganda, vice president IDEA (International Drama /Theatre Education Association) and chairperson of Board of Trustees of Uganda National Cultural Centre since 2009.

Her interest include creative writing, theatre, photography, research, book work;design, community outreach, cooking and gardening. Her current research is in e-publishing, particularly audio/taking and ebooks.
