AFTER THE SUCCESSFUL DANCE WEEK:

27th – 1st March was a weekend that saw the experts community park at the National theatre to watch the differently organised Dance Week. There was a lot of creativity used this time “said the director of Bayimba Cultural Foundation”. Dancers went for extreme formations, they had stories to tell, so many stories. It was good.

Now we are back to the weekly programme of the BONFIRE every Wednesday, the LATIN FLAVOUR every Wednesday after one week.

And the Sarah Ndagire show on the 13th March at UGCS.

Not forgetting the second edition of the Bayimba Cultural Discussions – 20th March at Club Rouge – Don’t miss the Panelists.

The following was posted by Musana Mo from Mombasa Kenya.

Kindly prepare your remarks around the following:

1-How can we have creative art?

Creative art can be achieved by means of self emancipation by the artists themselves as this is when the art will be truly from the heart, they can be further boosted by having art workshops where the art is appreciated, criticized and awarded.

2-How can the people start appreciating art?

The people can appreciate art if art is used as indirect reflection of their meditation, mood and inner feeling, thus art can only be appreciated if what the artist is trying to portrait can be embraced by the targeted people and this very people can somehow relate to the art.

3-How can art contribute to positive (emancipator) change?

Art can contribute to positive change of everyway if the artists themselves put emphasis into their work, since at is mostly an expression of one’s self in relation to the targeted (audience) people, perfect example of positive change can be the song (Goodbye) by Feroz a Tanzanian musical artist who used his personel to portray impact of the Aids scourge in Africa.

4-How can we discuss the social responsibilities of artists?

This can be made possible by use of public social forums and workshops that can in grove the quality of art which in turn will inform reflect positively in the art presented.

5-Misunderstanding art because of differences in cultures do we need?

Art of different cultures or art can sell any where?

The impact of art is more pronounced due to its diversity, art is the only form of expression that can manage to break through racial tribal religious and social barriers of life thus why can sell anywhere.

6-Can art be a form of direct action?

Yes art can be a form of direct action just as the saying goes art (artiste) is the public minor and art your mostly used to portray the mood and the feeling in art society e.g. during the apartheid regime most music from the NEGROID south African society was freedom and equality oriented thus art was used as a means of direct action by the artist to present their graveness to the world.

7-What are the artists/public benefits if art is understood and practiced?

The artist benefit both monetarily and morally if his/her work is embraced and appreciated e.g. a musical artiste who sings conscious music and the music is well received by the audience is able to get performances and at the same thus spread positive change to society.

8-How can we know that art is creating change?
