Jonathan Mugenyi is a trained educationist specializing in Creative Performing Arts. He has for the last ten (10) years since 2010, served as the National Curriculum Specialist for Music, Dance and Drama Education in the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC). NCDC is a corporate autonomous body of Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports. His mandate is to Initiate and develop ideas on Curriculum reform in the Performing Arts, develop and prepare Performing Arts syllabi, Teacher’s manuals, texts and other related curriculum materials. He is also charged with organising and conducting orientation courses for teachers, popularizing education in the areas of performing arts by evaluating the effectiveness of the instructional methods and techniques used in schools.
For the last eight (8) years, Jonathan has been a national adjudicator in the Annual National Festival of Performing Arts in Uganda’s School System. He is also the focal person on intellectual property education, a programme that is being worked on and yet to be adapted into the Uganda School Curriculum.
Jonathan is a trained Music Teacher from the Kyambogo Institute of Education. He is currently a finalist for the Interdisciplinary PhD (Social Studies) in the college of Humanities and social sciences in Makerere University. He also holds a Master of Education (MED CDD – Open University of Tanzania), Master of Economics in Performing Arts (University of Catania – Italy), Master of Philosophy in social studies (MISR-Makerere) and a Bachelor’s degree in Social anthropology and literature from Makerere university.
Jonathan is an accredited researcher in the humanities and social sciences whose publications are all focused on the performing arts industry in Uganda and beyond!
