The Bayimba Academy is proud to announce the return of its premier training track for Arts Journalists and Creative Writers. As Uganda’s creative industry—from the stage to the gallery—continues to evolve, the need for professional, ethical, and deeply researched storytelling has never been greater.
We are looking for a new generation of writers from Uganda and around the world ready to move beyond social media buzz and master the craft of substantive cultural reporting.

Who Should Apply?
This programme is designed for aspiring creative writers, literature students, early-career journalists, and digital content creators who want to professionalize their work. We are looking for voices that are passionate about:
- Music, Film, and Theatre
- Visual Arts, Fashion and New Media
- Cultural Heritage and History
What You Will Gain
Through an intensive 14-day residency, participants will receive hands-on mentorship in:
- Research & Archiving: How to dig deeper than a press release.
- Ethics & Integrity: Navigating the boundary between promotion and journalism.
- Precision & Accuracy: Mastering the technical vocabulary of the arts.
- The Editorial Lab: Drafting, critiquing, and polishing features for publication.
How to Apply:
To be considered for the 2026 cohort, please submit the following:
- A brief bio/CV (Max 1 page) highlighting your writing background.
- The pitch: A 300-word proposal for an arts-related story you want to write during the programme (e.g., a profile of an artist, a review of a movement, or an investigative piece).
- Writing sample: One previous piece of writing (published or unpublished) that showcases your unique voice.
