Empowering Uganda’s Creatives: Bayimba Foundation and British Council Launch National TVET Curriculum Program

British Council Bayimba Empowering Ugandas Creatives

The Bayimba Foundation is proud to announce a transformative partnership with the British Council to formally integrate Uganda’s vibrant creative sector into the national Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system. Launched on February 4, 2026, this four-month initiative marks a milestone in professionalizing the arts and creating accredited career pathways for Uganda’s youth.

Bridging the Gap for the Creative Economy

With Uganda’s creative economy valued at over USD 1.6 billion, the sector is a powerhouse for employment. However, many practitioners have historically lacked formal accreditation, limiting their access to financing and international markets. This program aims to close that gap by developing industry-standard curricula for disciplines including:

  • Film & Audio Production
  • Fashion Business
  • Theatre Production
  • Arts Management & Enterprise Development

National Reach and International Standards

Led by the Bayimba Foundation, the project will design short courses for both in-person and online delivery, ensuring accessibility in Kampala and regional hubs like Jinja, Gulu, and Mbarara. By aligning these courses with Uganda’s national qualifications framework and international TVET standards, we are ensuring that Ugandan creative talent is recognized both at home and abroad.

A Vision for the Future

“Structured certification will professionalize the sector and unlock new investment opportunities,” says Faisal Kiwewa, Artistic Director of Bayimba Foundation. By embedding creative skills into the formal education architecture, this initiative will drive enterprise growth and position Uganda as a leader in Africa’s evolving creative economy.

The program will roll out in six phases, including stakeholder mapping, digital adaptation, and pilot delivery, culminating in a national certification framework that supports the country’s wider industrialization and job creation goals.
