Job Title – Bayimba Festival Technical Director

Payment – 500,000 UGX
Hours – 5 to 7 hrs/Week (Flexible might be heavier during festival days)

The Bayimba International Festival of the Arts is a multidisciplinary annual arts event undoubtedly an important benchmark for the consumption of the finest Arts. Every second week of August, Lunkulu Island off the shores of Lake Victoria comes alive with multi feast of Music, Dance, Poetry, Storytelling, Acrobats, Theatre, Film and Visual Arts from renowned and emerging artists. The 15^th edition of the festival is scheduled for the 9^th – 13^th August 2023 at Lunkulu Island, Mukono, Uganda, bringing to life a true experience of all forms of arts.

Key Responsibilities:

This position reports directly to the Artistic Director and works closely with the Executive Management and wider Artistic Team. The position maintains effective working relationships with all programmed artists and their technical managers, technical service providers, volunteers and interns.

Duties and Responsibilities:

To create a tech week schedule for all performances within the festival.
To plan, schedule, and present tech presentations to all performances and the team
To cooperate with your fellow technical director, and oversee technicians for individual artists.
To work closely with the Artistic Director to ensure the safety and technical efficiencies of each performance.
To work closely with the Artistic Director to plan and adhere to deadlines.
To carry out any technical tasks not completed by technicians including setting up sound systems, hanging/focusing lights, hanging masking, programming cues, etc.
To attend meetings when requested by the Artistic Director + Executive Managers
To understand and ensure that the festival values are instilled in each performance.
To maintain order within Bayimba rented technical equipment.
All other job duties as assigned by the Executive Managers and Artistic Director.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

Must be 30 or under
Experience with live sound, soundboards/systems, stage lighting
Ability to film and edit videos
Interest in the arts
Strong organizational and time management skills
Strong leadership and communication skills
Must possess their own high-quality camera
Previous experience as a technical director is an asset

We are hiring two tech directors with the hope that one can focus on production tech and the other on digital tech. Specific duties, however, can be assigned within the tech team as seen fit.
