Bayimba believes in learning – developing skills and gaining experience is at the core of its organisational values. It therefore offers opportunities to interested candidates to interns (long-term assignments) and volunteers (short-term assignment for the duration of an event or activity) to bring their energy and passion to Bayimba and receive relevant skills and experience in return.
Volunteer positions are short-term assignments for the duration of an event or activity. If you are interested in participating as a volunteer in one of the BAYIMBA events or activities, please fill out the below information and submit attach 1) a detailed CV of work experience/ skills and 2) a (max. 500 words) motivation on why you would like to volunteer and what you expect to benefit or learn.
Procedure: BAYIMBA will make a short-list of candidates. Non-short-listed candidates will receive a regret and individual feedback. Short-listed candidates will be invited for an interview. BAYIMBA will then make its final selection and the candidates receive some basic training and are expected to attend all briefings organised for volunteers.

The stage manager will work closely with the technical crew to ensure that sound check is carried out in scheduled time. You will ensure that requirements of each artist’s technical riders are made available on stage at the time of their performance. You will be close contact with programmed artists to ensure that they are present for their performance. You will ensure that festival program is running in the schedule time. You will supervise the support team (stage assistants). You Must be a team leader, able to solve problems, able to multi tasked, proactive, good customer service skills, good with working under pressure and flexible. You will be supervised and guided by Head of programmes
Stage management volunteers will assist in managing the (back) stage. You will make sure that the (back) stage is only accessed by programmed artists and, on occasions, guests that are escorted by a festival senior crew member. You will assist artists in the backstage (dressing) rooms and stage presenters in the timely flow of the festival programme. You will provide assistance in case of technical minor problems and keeping the area in order after every performance/presentation. You will be working closely with the stage managers who will supervise and guide you.
Gate and ticket management
Gate and ticket management volunteers will be assisting at the gate of the event. You are responsible for collecting the entrance fee and counting those that enter. You will distribute wrist band to audience that has paid. You will serve as the first interface with customers. You must therefore be security conscious, have customer service skills and a winning smile. You will work in shifts and be supervised and guided by the Head of Administration.
Media volunteers will assist in hosting the various (local and international) media that visit an event. You will provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere and keep the media area neat and clean. You will sign in members of the media, provide them with appropriate badges, and secure on-site contact information and publications specifics. You will answer questions about the event, arrange for “artist-after-stage” interviews. You will be supervised and guided by the Head of Marketing and Media.
Social media volunteers will assist in the event online publicity by providing real-time updates about the event on the various event-related social media. You are required to have good writing skills and in-depth knowledge about Face book features, Twitter, Instagram, blogging etc. You will be supervised and guided by the Head of Marketing and Media.
Photography volunteers must at least have basic knowledge of camera techniques and editing skills. You will assist in capturing memorable moments during the festival, editing the different photos and sharing them through the social media platforms. You will assist in sorting and naming the photos taken by the team. You must be a team player and knowledge of Facebook features, Twitter, instagram and blogging. You will be supervised and guided by the Head of Marketing and Media.
Evaluation volunteers will be assisting in carrying out an impact assessment during the event. You will be handed survey forms to collect relevant information and data required for the assessment. You are responsible for checking survey forms, put them in order, ensure that the audience provides the right and completed information, collecting surveys when necessary, and providing clear information to the audience about the survey. You must be well-organized, patient and good-humoured, and a customer-service-oriented individuals. You will be supervised and guided by the Head of Research.
Workshops and conferences
Workshop and conference volunteers will help with the set-up and smooth running of all scheduled workshops and conferences prior and during an event. You will be responsible for creating and placing signs, setting up registration areas and distributing workshop/conference materials. You will make sure the workshop/conference rooms are set up and clean, tutors and/or speakers as well as participants are available in time for workshop/conferences and you will follow up on tutors/speakers who are required to write a brief report on the day’s activities. You will be supervised and guided by the Head of Education.
Volunteers at the information desk assist in providing information about the events, its programme and products/merchandise. You are responsible for the dissemination of information and selling the event and products/merchandise. You will direct the audience to the right spaces and assist the crew members in locating team mates. You will register those interested in BAYIMBA activities and new members. You will distribute name tags to the guests, visitors, artists and crew. You are a focal point for the organisation and the entire event team, so you must be patient and good-humoured, have customer service and organisational skills. You must be able to have all information of the organisation and the event at your fingertips, be able to aggressively sell the different products. You will be supervised by the Head of Administration.
Exhibition volunteers will assist in making sure that the exhibitions at the event are well-organized. You are responsible for checking in exhibitors before entering and register before setting up their tents. You will check that they have paid and that they have completed their paperwork, provide them with badges and disseminate other relevant exhibitor information. You will assist in rigging of electrical wires and cables, power and Light installation, lifting, heavy equipment. You will assist in designing the floor plan for the exhibitions. You will assist in curating the available exhibition spaces. You must be handy, able to do heavy duty work, patient and good-humoured in character and have customer service skills. You will be supervised and guided by Head of Administration.
Logistics volunteers will assist guests and visiting artists, ensure that they are all picked up and at their respective locations in time (including hotels and event location). You are required to keep time, especially for airport pickups and drop offs, sound check schedules and performance times. You MUST have a valid driving permit. You will be under the supervision of the Head of Logistics.
Volunteers in the area of general hygiene assist in keeping the Festival spaces clean and neat. You are expected to assist with the cleanness and neatness of all the Festival spaces, including toilets, bars and restaurants. You will be supervised by Head of Logistics.
You will ensure that sound, light and stage equipment is set up in your allocated space in the scheduled time. You will assist with rigging of wire and cables, set up and teardown of the different stages/setup and lifting of light and heavy equipment. You must have basic technical knowledge of light, sound and stage set up. You must be a team player, good organisational skills and have the physical strength to do some heavy lifting and standing for over a long period of time. You will be supervised by the Head of Programmes.
You will politely direct and escort audience to their seats or destination, provide the audience/guests with programs and other relevant materials, check assigned section for cleanliness, visually sweep the allocated space to check for potential safety issues and lost and found items, remain at assigned post throughout the event unless taking an assigned break. You must be aware of, and follow the proper procedures for assisting audience with disabilities, demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of all spaces within festival and a good understanding of evacuation procedures form all points within each space. You must be patient and good-humoured in character and have customer service skills. You will be supervised by the Head of Programmes.
Security volunteers (bouncers) are expected to maintain order in certain designated areas at an event location. You will assist in setting up the area, doing security check-ups upon entry and exit of the area, assisting in collecting entrance fees (if applicable) and a smooth running of the activity in the designated area. Volunteers should be male and should be strong. You will be under the supervision of the Head of Logistics.
You will help with the set-up and smooth running of all talkback session during the festival. You will make sure the rooms are set up and clean, moderator and speakers as well as participants are available in time for the sessions. You will follow up on moderator to ensure that they have received all the necessary information for the session. You will ensure that all the session are recorded and archived. You must have good planning and organisational skills, good customer skills and good public speaking skills. You will be supervised and guided by the Head of Education.
You will assist in set of the space and time keeping of each session. You will ensure that all the speakers are available in time for their session. You will create a daily delegate’s registration schedule for each session. You must have good organising and planning skills, customer services skills, networking skills and quick to get solutions. You will be supervised and guided by the Head of Education.
Special events/ Networking sessions
You will assist in setting up for special events such as cocktails, networking session and a special event planned during the festival. You must ensure that the activities run in the scheduled time. You must ensure that the events are only accessed by invited guest. You will make sure the space is clean and set up according to event requirements. You will assist in welcoming the guests, ushering guests to their seats and serving refreshments. You must be clean, have good customer services skills and a winning smile. You will be supervised and guided by the Head of Administration.
You will ensure that the lounge is only accessed by programmed artists or personnel. You will make sure the space is clean, set up and smooth running of the allocated activities in the scheduled time. You will be responsible for creating and placing signs, setting up registration areas and distributing materials. You must have good organising and planning skills, customer services skills, networking skills. You will be supervised and guided by the Head of Education.
Intern positions are longer-term assignments for the duration of 2 to 6 months. Interns join the BAYIMBA team for the time of the internship and work on a specific assignment.
